A British Street Food Award is a prize that changes lives. And businesses.
Wingmans, big winners at the Awards in 2017, have opened two ‘proper’
London restaurants. MEATliquor, who won at the Awards back in 2009,
now have 12 of the things. Bao have five. BSFA winners go places.
Literally. This year the BSFA champion will be going to compete in the
grand final of the 2025 European Street Food Awards in Munich.

Alongside the established Awards, such as People’s Choice, Best Burger
and Best Vegetarian, there will be Awards for Best Digital Content Creator,
Best Food Hall and Future Food Legend. The Best Looking, which is a
public vote for the UK’s coolest van, truck or trailer, is sponsored by
Majisign. And the Sustainable Award is sponsored by the Sustainable
Restaurant Association.

Street Food Ventures – the company behind the Awards in Britain – will also be
running Awards in 16 countries in the European Street Food Awards this
summer, and take the USA Street Food Awards to Portland in the
Autumn. With a view to set continent against continent before too long. “We don’t want a fixed starter-main course-dessert menu any more” says Richard Johnson, founder of the Awards. “After 15 years of hunting down the new food heroes, we’re delighted to champion flirty,
low-commitment dining. It’s inclusive. And in a world like ours, that’s a
positive message right now.”
