Feed The World
From tablecloths to tarmac – that’s the direction Marco Müller’s heading in this weekend during the European Street Food Awards in Berlin. A local double Michelin star chef let loose from his prestigious kitchen at Rutz, wanting to cater for the masses, out the back of a truck? What’s got into him?
Truth is, this isn’t the first time Michelin-starred chefs have shown a deep enthusiasm for street food. Giorgio Locatelli, Simon Hulstone, and Brad Carter have all jumped on the back of the figurative street food bus (destination: democracy) to judge the British Street Food Awards. And now we have Daniel Achilles, a chef with two Michelin stars at Berlin’s Reinstoff, carrying on the tradition for the #EuroSFA.
But this is a bit different. Marco Müller and the team behind Berlin Food Week will operate their own food truck – serving Michelin-starred canapés. For a donation (starting at 5€) you’ll be able to try to a tiny little dish of pig cheek with wild mushrooms and larches yoghurt. All proceeds will go directly to the UN World Food Programme supported by Mastercard.
The World Food Programme is designed to help 20 million starving people around the world. Food is a pleasure for you and me. But this is all a reminder that, from refugee camps in the Middle East to the suburbs of our own cities, it’s a necessity. Do please give generously.
