A-whey In A Manger

Remember last year? A food artist decided to create the Nativity scene out of cheese. She used 40 kilograms of the wonderful stuff to carve the masterpiece — including an incredibly intricate Baby Cheesus. I remember thinking to myself that if we were allowed to eat it (which we weren’t) all that would be left would be de-brie.

Lots of cheese news this week – in Manchester, London and Leeds. Cheese obsessives Sela Truck started their passion for cheese 13 years ago when they opened a pizza joint, but ‘sharing the love’ meant getting mobile. Starchy, a big red 1979 Bedford Camper (resplendent with a white Starchy & Hutch stripe down the side) will be stoking his ovens at the Winter Gathering, in an amazing listed fire station in Manchester, all week. With Streatza taking over on the 13th.

Next week we’ve got the new traders going in to Trinity Kitchen — with five very different takes on a Yorkshire Christmas. More details to come, but Diamond Dogs are busy bubbling up a mac and cheese with a medley of Yorkshire’s finest – including Smoked Wensleydale, Gromit! And KerbEdge are bringing back their Yorkshire Blue burger.

Lovers of cheese in London should head for the Cheese Truck, of course, and the marvellous Raclette Brothers, who will be pitching up outside the Marquis of Waterloo all weekend for the latest British Street Food Pub Takeover. The lads serve up amazing Alpine street food dishes around the UK, but they’ll be making your cheesy dreams come true with oozy melted cheese in Bermondsey from Friday to Sunday. Clear the diaries people!
