Korea Opportunities

Feel a bit foolish. Our ignorance has been exposed. Not that we like to parade our ignorance, but here we go. We always argued that street food in Britain would succeed despite the weather. Why wouldn’t it? Korea gets snow in the winter, and there’s street food everywhere. With people queuing up to eat it. Anyway, turns out that YES Korea is famous the world over for its vibrant street food culture, selling time-tested delicacies at every turn. But NO it’s not coming out of vans. Not a bit of it. It came as a real surprise to find out that food trucks were only legalized in Korea in August 2014 as a part of the deregulation efforts pushed by the Park Geun-hye administration. Made us realise how the UK — with kimchi experts such as Kimchinary and Kimchi Cult and Korean sauce makers Yogiyo, working out of wonderful vans, trucks and trailers — is really ahead of the game. It also made us realise how the battle against needless bureaucracy is a constant the world over. Check out this story from the Korean Herald: http://www.koreaherald.com/view.php?ud=20160219000572
