Lane Food

Street food in Manchester? Okay. Birmingham? Sure. But Devon? And when I say Devon I don’t mean Plymouth, or Exeter, I mean Tiverton, where the woods and orchards are patchworked with thousands of irregular fields? Well, last weekend it happened. It wasn’t so long ago that humans – like animals and plants – moved at nature’s pace. Time was marked by the passing of the seasons. In Tiverton, life hasn’t really changed. So to hear that the town just hosted a night market that drew 2,300 people away from The Voice live final shows how far things have come. And that maybe we got the business model wrong — street food isn’t an exclusively ‘urban’ phenomenon. Maybe it’s the 21st century alternative to the farmers’ market. Now you can hike up to Dartmoor, sit for hours — just watching the tors as they break the clouds — before you hike down again and EAT STREET FOOD! The truly national quality of the street food revolution will be reflected by SIX regional heats of this year’s British Street Food Awards. Read about the locations here. Street food — coming to your neighbourhood very soon. Even if you don’t live on a terribly busy street.
