We All Scream For Ice Cream…

Ever since La Grotta Ices won the Best of the Best — the overall winner — at the 2010 British Street Food Awards, I’ve had a thing about ice cream.
Although pedants will point out that Kitty Travers actually took home the title with her Sicilian lemon granita. Last year Ginger’s Comfort Emporium took home Best Dessert with an extraordinary confection of ice cream and brioche. And Claire Kelsey is coming back in 2012 to compete again for Best of the Best. What has happened to ice cream?  When did we start to expect more than a swirl of something hydrogenated in a cone — with a bit of a flake and few sprinkles on top? Have a read of this.
