It’s been called the drinking man’s turkey twizzler. But I’ve got a lot of time for a doner kebab. So I was a bit disappointed that we didn’t dig up more good quality kebab vans in the nominations round of the British Street Food Awards. But when I went to Turkey for Radio 4 recently, it made me realise that – at best – the British kebab is still a pale imitation of its Turkish cousin.
