It’s a big year for us. We’ve already been in the Dragons’ Den. We are unveiling our first food market, launching in the USA and expanding into new countries in Europe. After the excitement of 2022, we’ve already had a bumper crop of applications for 2023. Check this out. 2022 saw the best finalists ever, the best media attention, and the best sponsorship partners. With lots that’s new in 2023 (including the launch of our USA Street Food Awards, and our expanding roster of new countries competing in the European Street Food Awards – AND our Food St market), 2023 promises to be something special.
A British Street Food Award is a prize that genuinely changes lives. Wingmans, big winners at the BSFA and the ESFA in 2017, recently opened up their third ‘proper’ restaurant – in Hoxton. MEATliquor, who won at the Awards back in 2009 – now have 12 of the things. Bao have five. BSFA winners go places. Literally. This year the BSFA champion will be going to Germany to compete in the grand final of the 2023 European Street Food Awards. And, if everything goes according to plan, taking on the Americans in their own back yard in 2024…
Alongside the usual Awards, such as People’s Choice, Best Burger and Best Vegetarian, there will be new Awards this year – including the Spice Award, the Best Food Hall Award and the Future Food Legend Award. The Best Looking, which is a public vote for the UK’s coolest van, truck or trailer, is sponsored by Majisign. And the Sustainability Award is judged by the Sustainable Restaurant Association.
Food Mutiny – the company behind the Awards in Britain – will been running Awards in 16 European countries this summer, and will launch the USA Street Food Awards in the Autumn. “We don’t want a fixed starter-main course-dessert menu any more” says Richard Johnson, founder of Food Mutiny. “We want a bit of this and a bit of that. Flirty, low-commitment dining. Plus it’s inclusive. And in a world like ours, that’s a positive message right now.”
