Wot No Custard?
It’s the classic British question — what’s for pudding? Something sweet and substantial has been part of the fabric of our lives for centuries and, every once in a while, it’s good to let the calories count themselves. But a lighter alternative to sticky toffee pudding? Not so much. Street food to the rescue. We have recruited an amazing list of finalists to take on the Europeans at this year’s British Street Food Awards — and the first we signed up were The Cotton Club. They’re a very small start-up food cart (above) selling candy floss with exciting flavours aimed at adults. Expect traditional combinations such as Rhubarb and Custard, and Strawberry and Cream. But for street food train spotters, and foreigners, there’s Lemon Meringue Pie, Coffee and Donuts, Liquorice and Sherbet, and Toasted Marshmallow.
