The judging panel for the Street Food Awards is the most prestigious assembled for a British food competition. Ever. It will be chaired by me, but I’ll be joined by Marco Pierre White, Mark Hix, Antony Worrall Thompson, Thomasina Miers and Bob Fox.

marcoMarco Pierre White (http://www.marcopierrewhite.org) has been dubbed the first celebrity chef – the enfant terrible of the UK restaurant scene, and the Godfather of modern cooking. He was the youngest chef ever to have been awarded three Michelin stars, but is now in the business of running restaurants that sell “affordable glamour”.

AWT 2006 - credit Nick AyliffeAntony Worrall Thompson (http://www.awtonline.co.uk/home.asp) is a celebrity chef, restaurateur and television presenter. His self-deprecating style has earnt him a huge following, and he’s done more to democratise cooking than anyone else in Britain.

markhixnov2006With his robust cooking style, Mark Hix (www.restaurantsetcltd.co.uk)
has restored our pride in British food. He was previously chef director of Caprice Holdings (where he oversaw the menus and events of the group that included The Ivy and J Sheekey) but is now a successful restaurateur in his own right.

Thomasina_Miers_3[1] After winning MasterChef, Thomasina Miers went on to start the Wahaca (http://www.wahaca.co.uk) restaurant chain. Looking to the markets of Mexico for inspiration, her restaurants are all about good, honest street food. Served indoors. Which is cheating, really……

592009204038I’m running the awards in association with NCASS (http://www.ncass.org.uk), the trade association for the mobile and outside catering industry in the UK. The association’s boss, Bob Fox, will keep us on the straight and narrow — what Bob doesn’t know about working miracles on a tiny hotplate isn’t worth knowing.
