Fish and chips is the definitive British street food. But all too often, it’s a disappointment. Not at The Fisherman’s Pier Fish And Chip Van on Tobermory Harbour in Mull. It’s the only Les Routiers-accredited fish-and-chips van in the world. Jane and Jeanette use only fresh fish (haddock is by far and away the best seller), and they cook it to order. It helps that the setting is second to none. Find a spare lobster creel on the seafront, get comfortable, and tuck in your tea as the boats bob by.
Who’s been your most famous customer?
Prince Charles. He had the scallops.
Have you won any awards?
Well, Les Routiers asked us if we would consider being in their guide. But they didn’t have a category for fish and chip vans. So they had to create a category specially for us. That felt nice.
